Kukkolaforsen – A Family Business

After our trip into Oula, we took a two hour bus ride to the incredible Kukkolaforsen cabins, where pictures don’t do this place justice.  Surrounded by lush green forest on one side, and a river full of rapids on the other, the scenery was something out of a movie.  We arrived and were greeted by Professor Myhr’s father’s cousin, one of the owners of this amazing place.  We were each given instructions on how to proceed, what the schedule was, and were informed of everything this place had to offer, such as the sauna, fishing, and free wi-fi.

Much like a lot of other businesses out there, Kukkolaforsen is family run and has been for many years, passing down from one generation to the next.   Each family member helps with all tasks, at all times.  While it may be a small operation, it has a big feel with the amount of detail that was put into everything.   Family touches were put into everything from personal service at every meal, putting out chips and peanuts in the sauna common room for us to indulge in, to being extremely accommodating no matter how difficult the task was.  One of the best things to tie everything together was the home cooked meal of local white fish and salmon caught out in the river and fresh local berries for dessert.  That meal was cooked with love and we were so excited to be part of it.  The close knit feel and effort they put into the details of their family-run business made it a truly wonderful experience.
