Rovio is an entertainment media company and creator of the globally successful Angry Birds franchise. Founded in 2003 as a mobile game development studio, the company has developed several award-winning titles for various mobile platforms. In 2009, Rovio released Angry Birds, a casual puzzle game for touchscreen smartphones that became a worldwide phenomenon in 2010. The Angry Birds games have had chart-topping success as the 52nd game and only successful game of the franchise.
Rovio is rapidly expanding its activities in broadcast media, merchandising, publishing and services. Over the course of the next four years, Rovio hopes to release an Angry Birds Movie through their recently purchased production company, Kombo Animation Studio.
Rovio’s next project is another game called Amazing Alex. Rovio hopes that the new game will attract as many worldwide customers as Angry Birds.
Over the past few years, Rovio has experienced impressive growth, with 106 people people in the last quarter. The company that has less than 500 employees and is outgrowing its building here in Espoo, Finland. Rovio is opening three new locations in Stockholm, Sweden, Tampere, Finland and Shanghai, China.
Overall, it was a great day for us here in Finland.
