Reporting live from LAX

Let’s Goooooo!
Hey guys, we would like to introduce ourselves. Our names are Evan and Bradley, both MBA graduate students who are finishing up our curriculum in Scandinavia. We have little experience traveling abroad and are excited to be introduced to a whole new world. For this blog, we will be reporting as the “Golden Boys,” a name coined by a few of our fellow student travelers. When analyzing the idea behind this blog, we asked ourselves what topics are near to our hearts as well as could provide a deeper insight into the cultures beyond business practices and architecture. This is how we fell onto our topic of the blog. Before departing, the Golden Boys have a number of questions about Scandinavian culture, more specifically, the health and wellness of the population. Is this a major aspect of their culture, or is it not as important? To explore this question, we aim to speak to locals about the importance as well as track our own changes diving into this trip headfirst. Coming from an American lifestyle, how will our bodies react to the new food, transportation, and exercise availability?

Evan’s Thoughts
My initial thoughts about the trip are a combination of excitement and nerves. I have never been outside the country before other than fishing trips in Canada, nor on a flight longer than 7-8 hours. Yet, there is an excitement about being immersed in something totally foreign to me. The thought of focusing on a topic for our blog is awesome. I believe that this focus could provide insights into the values of people beyond monetary or religion. This focus gives us an opportunity on how people see themselves, as well as others around them. In total, we aim to flesh out the culture beyond the typical norms as well as test out a fun experiment of our own to take in all sides of Scandinavia.
Bradley’s Thoughts
In undergrad, I double majored in business and French but never actually got to study abroad because of the rona. I am stoked to finally be able to get abroad and see what the other side of the world has to offer. When thinking about what topic to choose, we obviously picked what we are most passionate about- food and training. I am stoked to interview and ask locals about their diet and training regimens. I predict that it will be primarily seafood and local vegetables, with some people resorting to fast food. We will ask locals if they do cardio or strength training and how they think their diet impacts their training and goals.
Closing Out
Our fitness backgrounds include the following: Evan has played football for 14 years and played collegiate football for Chapman. He is a lifetime, multi-sport athlete who enjoys training and fitness. Bradley swam competitively for 14 years and played water polo for 4 before transitioning to racing in triathlons. He now enjoys endurance training, swimming, cycling, and running, as well as weight training. The Golden Boys are excited to try and find a gym in Scandinavia, and train with the Swedes, as well as utilize running as a way to explore the cities we visit. Stay tuned for more!
