Hello Malmö

Media Evolution City headquarters in Malmö, Sweden

After a week in Stockholm, we made our way to Malmö. Malmö was a very different city than Stockholm- it varied in architecture, scale, and warmth. On Tuesday June 7th, we visited Media Evolution City which was located next to the old ports Malmo is known for. After entering the building, it gave us the same feel as WeWork except with the warmer Swedish touch. Like many other businesses we visited, they also had fresh flowers and lit candles throughout the office. After having an informational presentation by the director, we took a tour through the building. We saw various office spaces of those companies who are permanently there as well as those who occasionally use the shared desks and meeting rooms. They had kitchens for the companies permanently there and a coffee bar and restaurant for the other companies.

Media Evolution City has 200 members including company’s, organizations, and universities part of their work space. They were founded in 2008 by Magnus Nilsson who we were able to catch as he was leaving a meeting during our visit. Media Evolution City has a competitive advantage in Sweden due to them being the first to really effectively execute this concept in the country. Media Evolution City has 4 principles: community, work, foresight, and business intelligence. They collaborate through what they call “triple helix”, which ultimately  connects academia/university into businesses.
